Do the ships sail to Heligoland in winter as well?+
From Cuxhaven yes: the excursion ship MS Helgoland run by Cassen Eils sails daily all year round and berths in the south harbour. The fast catamarans, by contrast, are seasonal, with the Halunder Jet running from Hamburg and Cuxhaven from the end of March to the beginning of November.
How long does the crossing to Heligoland take?+
From Cuxhaven the catamaran takes around 70 to 75 minutes, the excursion ship about two and a half hours. From Hamburg the Halunder Jet is under way for around three and a half hours, including the stop in Cuxhaven.
How much time is left on the island on a day trip?+
That is set by the return sailing. From Cuxhaven the excursion ship leaves at around 10:30 and sails back at 16:00, which gives you roughly three hours on Heligoland. From Hamburg you arrive at around 12:30, with the return at around 16:30 or 17:00.
